Dear Kol Ami & Friends,
This year's election was filled with tension, fear, and uncertainty, no matter which side you voted for, or which party you affiliate with. In Jewish tradition we have a practice of reading Psalms in difficult times. I also recommend reaching out to family and friends to share your feelings. Please know as your rabbi I am here to offer support and help you find professional mental health services should it be needed in this challenging moment. I am concerned how the results will affect the rights of those in our LGBTQIA+ family and community, as well as many other important issues that affect the safety and security of those whose rights have been underserved. No matter what, Kol Ami will continue to be a community in which we fight for justice, and help to repair the world, through Tikkun Olam. We offer this prayer for our country as we move into an uncertain future.
Our God and God of the spirit of all flesh Guard and bless this country. Bless all it’s leaders and put in their hearts The spirit of wisdom and understanding That they might establish peace and liberty For all its inhabitants. Bless us, our Source, all of us as one. With the light of your countenance, That we might build together a society In which soon will be fulfilled the vision of your prophet: “Build houses and live in them, Plant gardens and eat their fruit. Seek the welfare of the city in which you live And pray on its behalf to God For in its prosperity you shall prosper.” (Jeremiah)
