Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022 - 4:00 PM Van Nuys state building - 6150 Van Nuys Blvd. Van Nuys, CA. 91401 Meet at the corner of Van Nuys Blvd. and Calvert St.
Join the ICE out of California Coalition and San Fernando Valley grassroots organizations, Congregation Kol Ami Tzedek Council, and RAC-CA at the VISION Act rally calling on State Senator Hertzberg to support the VISION Act (AB 937).
The VISION Act, authored by Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo, was introduced in the California state 2021 legislative session. The VISION Act passed the Assembly and is currently on the Senate Floor in the 2022 legislative session. The VISION Act would protect community members who have already been deemed eligible for release from being transferred by local jails and our state prison system to immigration detention. The VISION Act takes urgent and necessary strides toward ensuring that our local and state tax dollars are not used to funnel immigrants into dangerous health conditions in immigration detention, violate Constitutional protections, and separate immigrant families and communities.
RAC-CA has been working to pass the Vision Act for several years.
Please make and bring your own signs. Some slogans include: Pass the VISION Act (AB 937) Senator Hertzberg: Support the VISION Act End ALL ICE Transfers NOT ONE MORE DEPORTATIONS
The Whole Megillah Lamentations and Tisha B'av Saturday, August 6 ⋅ 7:00 – 8:00 PM
We hope you'll join Rabbi Levy in the first of what will be a running series of adult education classes focusing on the five different megillot (scrolls) that are read over the course of the Jewish holiday calendar.
Traditionally, Jews read from the Book of Lamentations on Tisha B'av, a holiday of mourning the many losses the Jewish people have suffered over the centuries from the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem to the Spanish Inquisition and pogroms of Eastern Europe. This virtual class will explore the core themes of Tisha B'av and the book of Lamentations, and how they might speak to our world today. REGISTER HERE
