Greetings,

It has been a busy month at Kol Ami as we plan for the High Holy Days and kick off our various committees. Thank you to everyone who has completed their membership renewals - your membership sustains our work year-round. As your co-presidents, we are pleased to share several updates. As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions to our Kol Ami email addresses: leonard@kol-ami.org and rebecca@kol-ami.org.

Join Us for the High Holy Days: We invite you to register for our high holy day programming on our website. We are lucky to have Cantor Patti Linsky and musical director Dr. Alin Melik-Adamyan joining Rabbi Lutz on the bima - you won’t want to miss it. Outside of services, we will offer extensive programming, including Tashlich at Will Rogers State Beach, the first annual community-wide and intergenerational break fast at Don Klein’s home, and a Middle Eastern Sukkot dinner under the stars – we look forward to seeing you in person! If you know someone looking for a place for the holidays, you have the option to purchase member guest tickets - please encourage them to join us!

Historic Torah and Build Kol Ami’s Future Campaign: David Kaminski announced our Historic Torah and Build Kol Ami’s Future campaign at the 30th Anniversary Gala. This is our first-ever campaign to preserve our 258-year-old Holocaust Torah trust scroll and build Kol Ami’s future. The campaign’s committee includes David Kaminski, Nancy Cohen, Larry Levi, and Dan Blatt. We invite you to learn more about this campaign on our website.

Security Updates: Your safety at Kol Ami is our utmost priority. Our synagogue staff has been working closely with the ADL, LA Jewish Federation’s Community Security Initiative, and Sheriff’s Department to strengthen our security procedures. Our Executive Director Devorah Servi shared an email last week describing new security measures, including that only members can park in our parking lot, our security guard will check all bags, and non-members must sign in at the gate. We are exploring ways to keep our community safe while maintaining a welcoming sacred environment and will share additional updates over the coming months.

Get Involved with a Committee: Last month, we introduced several committees - ways for members to get involved with the temple’s operations. While the committees have begun meeting, it isn’t too late to get involved. Please reach out to the following contacts to learn more:
Fundraising Committee: Rebecca Shurz
Programming Committee: Yaffa Hughes
Membership Committee: Dan Blatt
Tzedek Council: Alan Weisberg
Ritual Committee: Marilyn Ader
Transition Committee: Neil Spears

Warmly,
Rebecca Shurz and Leonard Slutsky
