Originally broadcast on June 25, in this medical webinar Dr. H. Aaron Aronow takes us on a personal journey beginning with The Great Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918-1920, through the HIV/AIDS Pandemic of 1981, to the current Covid-19 Pandemic, sharing some of the latest updates and how we can continue to protect our personal health, and the public health. Dr. Aronow also shared his perspective on the evolving implications for his vision of a Medicare Based Single Payer Universal Healthcare System For All and health policy more broadly, that will help end racial and economic based disparities, and took questions from attendees. This webinar was moderated by Rabbi Denise L. Eger.
 
Dr. H. Aaron Aronow currently serves as the Associate Clinical Professor of Neurology and Internal Medicine at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. Throughout his illustrious career in medicine, he has served as a practitioner, teacher, and researching, publishing numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and establishing specialty and expertise in the area of HIV/AIDS care, neurology, and neurovirology. Since 2016, he has served as Attending Neurologist and HIV Specialist at the Desert AIDS Project in Palm Springs. Dr. Aronow and his husband Mike have been Kol Ami members since the founding of our congregation.

Watch this webinar with Ricki Bander, PhD, and Larry Levi, MFT originally recorded on Zoom on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. These two outstanding mental health professionals addressed taking care of our mental health and wellbeing during these stress and anxiety-provoking times. They touched on themes of resilience, self-care, and coping mechanisms for managing during the coming months, especially as society begins to re-open, and we are all faced with managing our tolerance for re-entry.

Dr. Bander (Ricki) is a licensed psychologist and board-certified coach with over 35 years of clinical, teaching, training and coaching experience. She holds a master’s in Counseling & Personnel Work and a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the Ohio State University. She is a CCE Board Certified Coach with specialties in Career Coaching, Wellness Coaching, and Life Coaching. She is also a certified Emotional Intelligence trainer and HeartMath trainer. Dr. Bander has held multiple faculty appointments, including in Family Medicine from 1981 through 2000 at the USC-Keck School of Medicine. She has coached and consulted in leadership & executive development, transition management, wellness and stress in healthcare industries. Her practice, today, primarily focuses on supporting physicians’ and healthcare workers’ well-being and career satisfaction along with adults seeking career coaching, stress management and relationship/communication skills. She provides consultation for executives and physician leadership for medical groups, physician health committees, and healthcare systems.

Larry Levi, M.A., MFT has generously offered his expertise to our Kol Ami community at numerous times over the past several years, most recently facilitating our Quarantine Quorum - an isolation support group, as well as grief groups for those experiencing loss. In his private practice, Larry specializes in grief, anxiety, depression, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and relationship/sexual issues.

Taking Care of Your Health During Coronavirus: Medical Town Hall with Dr. Mark S. Litwin & Dr. Sherry Ross.

On Tuesday May 12, 2020, doctors Litwin and Ross shared an overview on the way the Covid-19 coronavirus works epidemiologically, as well as some reminders about how we can best protect ourselves and one another in the days to come, as reopening continues and we move into a "new normal."
 
Dr. Litwin is the chair of urology department at UCLA. He is a skilled surgeon and expert in prostate cancer and men’s health. He is a double appointed professor in Urology and in the school of Public Health at UCLA Medical School, and he is noted as a champion of LGBTQ sensitive care.
 
Dr. Sheryl Ross is an award-winning OB/GYN in private practice, women’s health expert, and entrepreneur, as well as a role model to women everywhere. Dr. Ross has made TV appearances on news medical segments, and has broadcast in many podcasts and webcasts. She has authored or been cited as an expert in over 1,000 articles, blogs, and features. She is the author of the award winning book on women’s health Sheology and Sheology the Shequel.
 
Both Dr. Litwin and Dr. Ross are Kol Ami members.
