The Tanach, Talmud, Midrash, and Rabbinic literature are replete with stories of medicine, medical miracles, and healing.  In this mini-course, Cantor Nancy Cohen, M.D., and Dr. Yaffa Weisman will show examples of them through the lens of the prophet, Elisha, and these texts will encourage further study, and spark new questions and insights.

We will discuss three stories about Elisha as the "medicine man of the Bible" in these three course sessions—join us for any or all of them! They are "Elisha and the Healing Waters," "Elisha and CPR," and "Elisha and Leprosy."

“As knowledge advances, science ceases to scoff at religion; and religion ceases to frown on science.  The hour of mockery by the one and of reproof by the other is passing away.  Henceforth they will dwell together in unity and goodwill.  They will mutually illustrate the wisdom, power, and grace of G-d.  Science will adorn and enrich religion, and religion will ennoble and sanctify science." (Oliver Wendell Holmes)
