Social Action
Congregation Kol Ami's Social Action Committee analyzes issues and problems facing the community served by the Congregation and the nation in relation to the principles of Judaism and the Congregation's mission statement, and by the process of education, sensitize the membership to the moral implications.
What do the words Tzedakah and Tikkun Olam mean to you? If you want to put these words into works of loving kindness, join the Kol Ami Social Action Committee. The committee focuses on volunteering at the SOVA Food Pantry (the Los Angeles Kosher Food Pantry) and Project Chicken Soup, deciding where the Temple's Tzedakah donations go, running the annual Toy Drive and participating in Big Sunday.
We volunteer at SOVA on the second Sunday of every month at their Metro location from 9:00 AM to noon. We usually have our lunch committee meeting directly after this. SOVA Metro is located at 7563 Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles. This location is just a few blocks east of the Grove.
Kol Ami members also volunteer at Project Chicken Soup. Cooking as well as delivery opportunities are available. Cooking starts at 8:00 AM, with deliveries beginning at 11:45 AM. Cooking skills are not required – they also need help packing. Project Chicken Soup is located at the Hirsch Family Kitchen, 338 North Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. This location is just a few block north of the Grove.
The remaining cooking dates for 2007 are:
June 3 and 24 July 8 and 29 August 12 and 26 September 9 and 23 October 14 and 21 November 4 and 18 December 2 and 16

Three Ways You Can Help Israel
As part of Kol Ami's ongoing commitment to help Israel and
her people during these difficult times, listed below are
three things you can do to help ease the tzoris!
1. Visit the web site www.shopinisrael.com. Buy Israeli made products to boost
the economy or     send gifts to IDF soldiers through this
web site.
2. Make a donation to the JEWS IN CRISIS campaign of the
United Jewish Federation. Los     Angeles
is trying to raise an additional $12 million dollars that
will help out both Israel and the     Jewish
community in Argentina. Call William Bernstein, JFC Executive
Vice President, at (323)     761-8207; send
your check, payable to the United Jewish Fund or UJF Jews
in Crisis Fund, to     The Jewish Federation,
6505 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1000, Los Angeles, CA 90048; or
donate     online at www.
jewishla.org.
3. Monitor the media for anti-Israel and anti-Semitic reporting.
In recent months, the Los Angeles     Times
and CNN and ABC news have been particular slanted in their
reporting against Israel.     Write a letter
to the editor or bureau chief:
