California Faith For Equality Leaders Star In New Video, “Weathering The Storm,” Supporting Marriage Equality
Love, Not Laws releases PSA “Weathering the Storm” in support of same-sex marriage, in response to National Organization for Marriage’s recent “Gathering Storm” video.
LOS ANGELES, April 21 – Ugly Betty actor Alec Mapa, Broadway actress Shoshana Bean and well-known out actor Wilson Cruz have joined Love, Not Laws, a California-based group of friends, co-workers and families who decided to come together – by donating their time, talent and resources - to create a serious response, “Weathering the Storm” (www.youtube.com/lovenotlaws), to the misinformation and bigotry expressed in the National Organization for Marriage’s (N.O.M.) recent “Gathering Storm” video.
Life, liberty and the freedom to pursue happiness are inalienable rights for ALL Americans. Americans have traditionally stepped up to do the right thing to ensure EVERYONE is treated equally in the eyes of the law. Unfortunately, rights are rarely granted without a struggle, and now the struggle is currently centered on same-sex marriage.
“Weathering the Storm" is the first (N.O.M.) response video to address the true issues of same sex marriage using real people who are affected by this fight for equality. Love, Not Laws, is a grass-roots effort to respectfully present information to those who may have an alternate opinion, but who are willing to listen to and consider the truth.
“Several wonderful comedic parodies of the N.O.M. commercial have surfaced on YouTube and other social networking sites and blogs, and while we always appreciate humor, we worry that it could mask the serious nature of what is happening and can potentially happen as we fight for civil rights”. – said Paul Katami, founder of Love, Not Laws.
“Weathering the Storm” also includes familiar faces such as Michelle Wolff (star of Dante's Cove), Rev. Susan Russell (All-Saints Church), Tony Sweet (On Air with Tony Sweet), and everyday citizens speaking in support of same-sex marriage and against those who oppose equal rights.
