Kol Hashamayim Continues--Seeds of Sun

The highly successful Kol Hashamayim series continues in its fourth year on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. featuring the award winning North American Israeli Jazz Ensemble, Seeds of Sun.

A New York based band which brings new perspectives on World Jazz through Israeli and South American influences, this critically acclaimed ensemble has transformed old school Israeli music into an exciting eclectic mix of Jazz-fusion and Brazilian grooves. The group has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and at the 92nd Street Y in New York, along with performing in Vietnam, Hong Kong and the Philippines. Seeds of Sun is featured on the Global Rhythm magazine CD, and has received the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting award for its original music tracks.

Members of the group include:
Mattan Klein (flute), born and raised in Jerusalem and completed his studies at the Berklee College of Music. He has performed with Berklee faculty members and guest artists such as Billy Childs, Giovanni Hildalgo and Victor Mendoza. Klein has toured Europe, Brazil, and America leading his original jazz-fusion group. He was also co-founder and bandleader of the "Massa U'Mattan" trio. Klein was a winner of the year 200 John Lennon Songwriting Contest under the category of Jazz Composition.

Lilach Koch (vocals) served as vocalist with the IDF Orchestra. She is a graduate of the Beit Zvi School for the Performing Arts and starred in numerous productions in theatre, cinema and on Istraeli TV, and had won first prize at the Eurovision International Song Contest with the Israeli delegation in 1998.

Yoav Polachek (piano) grew up in Tel Aviv, Israel and was involved in major theatrical productions, including Peter Pan and Les Miserables. After receiving his Bachelors Degree from Berklee College of Music, he returned to Israel and worked with leading artists. He was also involved in composing music for the film industry and wrote scores for numerous TV features. After completing his Masters Degree at NYU, Polachek has worked actively as a jazz pianist in New York and as an internet audio specialist for andante.com.

Gustavo Amarante (bass) was born in Belo Horizante, Brazeil and began his musical studies at the Fundacao de Educacao Artista and Fundacao Clovis Salgado. He joined the traditional folk band, Cia de Forro Cintura Fina, toured nationwide for two years. After graduating from the Berklee College of Music, Gustavo has performed, toured and recorded with several artists from the United States and abroad.

Yuval Lion (drums) grew up in Tel Aviv. He served in the Israel Air Force Orchestra and played with many artists on the Israeli scene. In New York his original drumming style has made him one of the busiest players on the rock-funk scene, performing with artists such as Milo Z., Moe Holmes, Warner Brothers recording artist Lizzy Wes, and Superlux.

The concert will take place at Congregation Kol Ami, 1200 North La Brea Avenue, West Hollywood . Tickets are $15 for Kol Ami members and $20 for non members and guests. Reservations can be made by calling the Temple office at 323-606-0996.

The final concert of the season will take place on Sunday, June 4, 2006, details to follow.
