Special Music Shabbatot
Come join us this August and September as we explore the wonderful diversity and richness of Jewish music with three special Shabbat music services.
Our first service is August 12, coinciding with Tisha Bav, the commemoration of the destruction of the Second Temple. Strings and piano will deepen our worship experience as we proudly premiere the complete Suite from Three Films for Cantor and Piano Trio composed by Emmy award winning composer Lee Holdridge. The musical source material is drawn from Mr. Holdridges award winning scores for three moving holocaust films with texts created by Cantor Saltzman. The Cantor commissioned the Suite for Congregation Kol Amis Kol Hashamayim music series this year, where the second movement was performed at the February concert.
August 19, Craig Rosen brings his vibrant musical personality and style to our synagogue for an upbeat service of congregational participation and singing. Craig grew up at Temple Beth Hillel in North Hollywood, and has since become an accomplished Jewish singer/songwriter whose melodies and words are sung at camps, conventions, theaters, and congregations (including our own!) all over the world. Craig currently serves as the Director of Education for Congregation Bnai Brith in Santa Barbara. Additionally, we share special nachas on this evening with our board member Tobi Rosen who is Craigs mother. Come sing, laugh and learn with us at this very exciting service.
The last of our special Shabbat music services will be on September 19 and will be devoted to preparing us for the liturgy and nusach of the High Holiday Days. We will explore the intricacies and beauty of the most dramatic and meaningful liturgical repertoire in the Jewish canon. This is a great opportunity to familiarize and prepare yourself for the days of awe to come.
Please mark your calendars to join us for this wonderful series of inspiring, musical Shabbat evenings.
