Women of Kol Ami (WOKA)
Women of Kol Ami (WOKA) has been an integral part of Congregation Kol Ami since the very beginning. The women of Kol Ami are dedicated to creating opportunities for SPIRITUALITY, SERVICE, SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT, SCHOLARSHIP AND SISTERHOOD for our diverse group of women members and to support the congregation, and our social action efforts.
Most of our activities are inspired by the current membership. In the past we have had: Challah baking, game night Havdallah, arts and crafts (Challah Covers, knitting) Chanukah Havdallah, Dodger Baseball, trips to HUC Library, Torah Study & Hike, pool parties, and theater parties.

We have raised funds for, the women of the Abayudaya Congregation, Chanukah toys, the Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund as well as participated in the Walk for Darfur, Big Sunday, sponsored films at OUTFEST and other social action activities. We have also established "A Scholar in Residence" award. This year our recipient is Robin Podolsky, who is studying for the Rabbinate.
At our second Annual Chanukah party, 15 women enjoyed latka's and various delicious sweets, while talking and getting to know one another. After we had a Havdallah service (yes it was Sunday...) we lit our Menorahs and sang a few classic tunes. Since the fires in Israel were still raging, WOKA made a Chanukah donation.
Also at this time, current Chair of WOKA, Debra Miller, turned over her wand and the WOKA Tallit to Wendy Hartmann. Wendy is excited to take on the challenge of organizing the women of Kol Ami and WOKA is excited to have her at the helm.
Please join us for any of our programs.
