Cantor Mark Saltzman
Cantor Mark Saltzman is responsible for expressing the musical personality and voice of our congregation. Trained as a classical singer, but comfortable in a variety of styles and periods, Mark creates a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Whether he is chanting traditional prayers or leading a service of the most recent contemporary Jewish music, our Cantor is cherished for his beautiful singing and heart filled interpretations. Mark is also a noted composer of liturgical music whose melodies are sung in many congregations throughout the United States. He is proud to be a part of the roster of synagogue composers published by the URJ’s Transcontinental Music division. Founded in 2003, Mark has produced the very eclectic and highly acclaimed Kol Hashamayim concert series at the temple, and in collaboration with the City of West Hollywood.
In addition to the various musical and spiritual needs he fulfills at Kol Ami, Mark has written and directed a variety of special programs for the Los Angeles Opera Community Outreach Programs, Opera UCLA Workshop, and the USC Thornton School of Music. He currently serves on the Board of the Guild of Temple Musicians and regularly lends his musical knowledge and guidance to organizations such as the American Conference of Cantors, the Aids Service Center, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, Overtone Industries, and the Metropolitan Master Chorale. Cantor Saltzman is honored to have been part of the Kol Ami clergy team for over 15 years.
